Welcome to Mrs. French's 2nd grade Classroom!

As you know, Bedford County Public Schools will be closed the remainder of the school year. While your child is at home, the following activities would be helpful but not required to continue their academic growth. Please continue to send pictures, messages, and comments on ClassDojo.

Please see the link to Planbook to access instructional suggestions and resources for the week: https://www.planbook.com/planbook.html?t=1137842&k=fesowls&y=0&c=0 Please note what has been highlighted. That is to show what is the most important to complete so that your child is exposed to material we did not cover. These plans were designed by the 2nd grade team at FES and were created in an attempt to meet the needs to each child and family. The highlighted material is the best place to start. Additional material and instructions are provided for families that desire or are able to extend their child's learning. Everything is OPTIONAL and will not be graded. * Bare minimum, your child should read 20 minutes each day and work on math facts.

These suggested activities are not required or graded.

Reading Resources:

1.  My favorite at home resource right now is the Scholastic Learn at Home!  It combines fiction and nonfiction reading, social studies, sciences, and even integrates math and writing.  Your child can even choose to read the book alone or have the book read aloud while they follow along. This can likely be something your child can navigate independently after just a little help from you!

2.  Epic! Books:  www.getepic.com/students
This is a classroom favorite and is another resource your child can navigate independently.  Check your email for your invite. Our class code is ZVG-1508.

3. Storyline Online:  https://www.storylineonline.net/

Actors and actresses read aloud various picture books.  I love this! If you are feeling adventurous, check out the "Teacher's Guide" with each book on extension activities.

4.  Just read a book!  Or a magazine...a recipe...directions to a game...subtitles while watching TV, etc.  Reading is all around us!

**Keep a list of AR books your child reads so they can test and earn points when we return to school! At this time, there is no test access from home.

Math Resources:

1.  XtraMath: https://xtramath.org

I have had some students do great with this resource, while it has made others anxious.  This totally optional! There are plenty of other ways to practice fact fluency. Try using flashcards, playcards, dice, or just call out facts.  Second graders should be fluent in addition and subtraction facts to 20.

2.  IXL:  www.ixl.com/signin/bedfordcounty

Your child's username and password should be their student number (lunch number).

Recently, IXL has also added free reading, language, social studies and science resources too.  Check them out!

3. Prodigy: https://www.prodigygame.com/

Login information came home in Tuesday folders earlier in the year.  Message Ms. Byrd or I if you need login information for your child. The kids love this!
